Stay Organized

Mr. New Material
Are you trying to get connections in the music industry? If the answer is yes, you will need to take the proper steps to ensure that your connect list is all it can be. When you're a musician doing shows and selling CD's, there are lots of mainstream connects that are sure to come your way, do you have all of their information?

Staying Organized

If you're in the music industry, you should already know by now that it's not what you know, it's who you know. That being said, you must keep up with everyone's contact info. The true art of networking and communicating is all in the contact numbers posted on those business cards they hand out. Get a binder or folder and start writing down all of the names and numbers of your networking buddies. This will come in handy when you have to promote your music all over again, you wont have to find new connects. If you do find new connects, you can also log them into your binder or folder as more networking sources. Don't underestimate anyone! This is the worst mistake you can make when it comes to the music industry. That business card you got the other night could turn out to be your big break and you would never know because you threw it away!

Organize by Position

When choosing to organize your business connects you'll need to have an order to it. Stick to filing everyone under the position they play. For instance, log the DJ's under the DJ section and producers under producers. You should do that for each and every number you get and eventually you'll have a list of everyone. Having that big of a list will enable you to pick and choose who you wish to work with when and where. The list doesn't stop with music connects, you should also organize video networking companies as well as additional people such as models, A&R's and radio stations. Staying organized also means staying up to date with contact numbers and keeping up with the binder or folder you have the numbers in. Treat this like money; don't lose it no matter what! Stay on top of things by constantly staying in touch with your business connects whether you need their services or not. Doing this will get you're networking skills up, eventually you won't even need your binder, everyone will know you by name!
