Earshot's CD titled Two features eleven songs. The lyrics take emotional distress and transform it into passionate, yet dark songs that express most accurately the way every one feels at one time or another in their life. While each song follows a similar sound, the lyrics separate each song.
The first song, "Wait", reflects the emotions of having to wait. Waiting for someone to love you, waiting for someone to love, or maybe waiting for the pain to subside after losing both; it seems like there is always something to wait for.
"Tongue-Tied" follows with lyrics describing more pain that people don't discuss with each other. The thoughts that envelope you in your darkest moments are brought to life.
"Fall Apart" draws you in with lyrics that describe everything falling apart. The beat behind the song pulls the song together. After you are captured by the beat, the lyrics wash over you. There isn't a person out there who can't relate to this song.
"Someone" again takes you to moments when you have felt that you just wanted to be understood, accepted, and loved. Those moments when you just wanted to have someone you could trust and never be alone again. It is a song of regret over mistakes made that left you where you are now.
"Rotten Inside" delves into the self hatred we inflict upon ourselves. When you see the worst in someone, but then you realize you are the same.
"Down" speaks of the days when you feel down and can't quite put your finger on why.
'Nice to Feel the Sun" is my favorite. It explains the emotions of trying to overcome your own demon. You're being drug down. You want desperately to climb up out of the dark hole you live in and feel the sun. You want to feel happiness. This song makes you feel more invigorated. It inspires hope that it will get better, and that you can reach that point again.
"Again" and "Good-bye" express dark emotions of the temptation to just give up in the realm of relationships and having someone to love. They sing of the emptiness left in the heart.
"Should've Been There" takes a turn to a mellow, gut-wrenching song of regret of not being there for someone.
"Control" wraps up the CD with a look at the mind. The mind is a place to hide all our thoughts, fears, and dreams. It is where we struggle with ourselves and our emotions. The mind is where we escape from the real world, and the place where we all think too much and worry more than we should as we battle our demons. In the end, it's our mind and the thoughts inside that control us one way or another.
The lyrics on this CD are short and to the point. They're easy to remember, and they say what you feel. I think this CD expresses what people feel and can't express easily with words. Earshot has expressed it for us.
