Music Review: Francesco Esco

Exploring the Ambient Samplings of a Self-professed Sound Designer

G.L. Morrison
Music defines us. It unites us by region and generation but separates us by intent and individual preference.

Of all the glorious things that the world wide web has brought us, I am continually entranced by the array of art, artists and musicians that are only a click away. My personal quest for the new and delicious finds me spending a lot of time at sites like Deviantart.com (visual arts) and Reverbnation.com (music) and Gotpoetry.com (poetry). It's a pleasure and an honor to introduce some of the gems I've uncovered there. Expect more reviews and interviews. (It's the only way I can justify the amount of time and pure escapist joy I find there.)

The following is a review of Italian musician Francesco Esco.

Esco describes himself as a "Sound Designer." This is an apt description for this song-writer and guitarist. There are few words (or perhaps I'm not musically schooled enough to know them) to describe the aural collages that are available with blending technology, musical instruments and what have you.

A lot of what falls into the category "Dance/Electronica" is more what have you than musical. (For my tastes.) But much of Francesco Esco's work is soulful and ambient. Sorry, Sir, but not dance-able. Unless you are looking for a mind-bending Martha Graham improvization.

Francesco Esco's track Sushi Night is astonishing! Liquid and serene, this is a refreshing blend of ancient and modern. Like a rainstorm in a dream, this song is soothing but surreal.

You can check out Francesco Esco at http://www.reverbnation.com/francescoesco

It's supposed to say "self-professed" not sex-professed. LOL. I'll fix that.

A very peaceful melody. Sushi Nights was my favorite selection also. The guitar sounds similar to a harp in this piece, and would make lovely music for meditation.

Interesting, something different from what I enjoy.
