If you are a musician and have not heard of Berklee College of Music, you are about to be schooled! Berklee is the most popular and largest indie school that studies modern music. Some famous people who have went to Berklee are: Quincy Jones, producer/arranger, The leading man of Steely Dan, Donald Fagan, Melissa Etheridge, singer songwriter, composer/jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis, and many, many more.
The Music Production and Engineering Major at Berklee will teach you how to master making professional recordings through various projects. You will learn all the techniques and will basically go through the regular routines that engineers and producers go through. Admission is based on your skills, your previous college courses and aptitude. Some courses you can expect to take are: Critical Listening Lab, Business of Music Production, Multitrack Recording Techniques and MIDI systems for Music Production. You can receive a degree or a diploma. The cost is $2,950 each semester for both programs.
Full Sail
This is another really hot school that Rolling Stone said Full Sail is one of the five best music programs in the U.S. Graduates of this school do not just disappear into oblivion.They go on to work in major films, popular video games, and with major recording artists like Madonna and Faith Hill. The Recording Arts Degree at Full Sail will teach you everything right from the very beginning. You'll learn about music, recording and audio postproduction in just 12 months. For those of you who hate the thought of spending four years in school, this is a great alternative! You will learn on professional equipment from top notch instructors who are industry veterans. They don't just stop there, no. You'll also learn about audio for video games, television and movies. Taking this program you will earn an Associate of Science Degree. Some career choices with this major are: Sound Effects Editor, Recording Engineer, Programmer, Music Producer, Editor, Mix Engineer and Sound Designer. Oh, and most importantly, this school never ends. It is open 24 hours a day. That means you can have a class in the morning and at night. This is really intense and not for the faint of heart. If you want a career in the Recording Arts here, the cost including tuition, books and more is $34, 525.
