Scurrying to find the open seat
When the song plays, like puppets we run
Those who are quickest rarely taste defeat
In everyday life it often seems
Our reactions determine if we fail or succeed
We plan our moves; we can push others aside
All to get ahead and to stay in the lead
But every musical chair game ends
And success is not about taking the last seat
That is the starting point on our journey
What we do with that last chair is our true feat
We can sit and gloat that we beat out the world
Or we can open our minds and see the cost of the game
What did we prove in the quest to be on top?
Is there a sense of accomplishment or feelings of shame?
In life, we will always play musical chairs
Always fighting for our shot; that is the human condition
But it is how we compete that determines who we are
True victory never abandons the heart for the sake of ambition

Neat poem.
I always love your poetry
Well said :)
Well-written. My view exactly.
Donna, I love this comparison - it is true for most of the world! I would gladly give up my "seat" for a smile :) cheers!
Very nice and a meaningful thing to contemplate. Rushing to beat others is fun for little kids, but it can be a cruel way to look at the world!
Beautifully written. As I find myself in the hustle of life, trying to promote content, I also attempt to promote others as well which can be hard. I'm not much an actual competitive type, so I think I'd in reality give the last chair to a friend! =) Great writing as always Donna!
Wonderful!!
Perfectly written!
