We can listen to music for every type of mood that we are in at that point in time. For instance I am listening to "Hate Me" by Blue October right now as I am writing this. Kind of tells you what type of mood [I] am in "right now".
It actually is a very well written song when you take the time to listen to it. I know for one that my mother would not take the time to listen to it. Mostly for the fact that it is not her "type" of music, because it talks about hate and drugs. In this song there is a really positive message in it, if you want to hear it.
The song is really talking about someone that was messed up, and in a really bad way, but finally got help, and still ended up lossing the one person that he really wanted in the end. Sad, when you actually think of how many people never get help at all.
There are many songs, artists, and bands that have some really soul searching music out there, but they put there music to a "different drummer" so to speak than the traditional "country", "jazz", "blues" formats to get their message across to their listeners.
They have great messages in their songs for young and old listeners alike, you just have to want to hear it. Granted there are songs that are about murdering, rape, drugs, "hanging with your homies", and other activities of the same nature that I wouldn't recommend children listening to, but these can also be a kind of release for some people.
Just because some of us listen to rappers, gangbangers, and thugs talking about killing, shooting, and doing drugs, does not necessarily mean that we are going to go out and do the same thing. It is just a song after all, not an edict written in stone.
Music is an emotional "expression" of feelings. Music can change your feelings and your mood at the moment. It can help you feel happier. It can assauge a dark mood, help draw you out of that dark mood. It can "speak" to that dark place inside you, or it can lift you up. Most of all it is a "sub-conscious" thing. You have the control over it. You have to let the music do it for you, for it to work.

Post a CommentThank you so much, that was the idea I was trying to convey with out actually saying it.
I really like the idea of a musical getaway -- like taking a vacation in your own room or car or wherever just by listening to music. Good work!
Why thank you so much! Glad to hear that I have influenced somebody! lol. I will check out the other site that you mentioned and check out some of your other content as well. Have a great day!
Hello Jenny,
Nice article. I like all kinds of music, but my preferences are for Jazz and Blues. They call me "Old School". However, I listened to the song you referenced in your article. I have to agree with you, it is a well written song. I guess the saying, 'don't judge a book by its cover' goes for music as well. Don't judge a song by its title.
By the way, have you heard of finetune.com? That's where I listened to the song. Its a really cool site.
Keep up the good work.
