Many people, by the time they are adults have owned or possessed a number of Musical instruments. Many young children are fortunate enough to be given a harmonica or a tambourine at an early age. Most never really learn to play these musical instruments, but they do make some dreadful noise on them. Next in the pantheon of musical instruments of you youth is usually a small recorder known as a sweet wind, although why these musical instruments are called that, considering the sounds that are elicited from these musical instruments by the young musicians, is beyond me.
If we have had any success with these musical instruments, we may graduate to one of the bigger, more substantial wind musical instruments like the clarinet, flute or the trumpet. God help the parents if the next one of the musical instruments a child wants is the saxophone. These devices of torture are a fairly new invention as far as musical instruments go, but boy can they produce some loud and awful sounds in the hands of a fiendish young person. Musical instruments are all well and good and it is important for children to learn to play musical instruments, but can't they just do it at school? Do they have to bring their musical instruments home where their poor old parents are just trying to relax after a hard day's work?
And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, your teenager brings home one of the big guns, the electric guitar or a full drum set. But, in view of all the torture parents might thing they are enduring, hearing your child practicing away on a musical instrument can give you such a great feeling. And many children actually prove to have quite a bit of talent playing their musical instruments. Some go on to college and further their development with their musical instrument of choice in university bands and orchestras and eventually become part of the wonderful orchestras that most significant cities support. Even if the rock music scene is where your grown child finds himself, you might be very happy that as a fourteen year old, he or she played that electric musical instrument down in the basement or out in the garage because it has resulted in a life long love of some type of music that includes musical instruments.
