Muslim Social Networking: 2009! It's Our Time to Shine

aishaladon
Social Networking has really gained popularity within the past year or so. Social Networking provides opportunities to get to know others you would not ordinarily have the opportunity to meet due to distance etc. Well in a virtual world there is no distance. Technology has provided many opportunities for people to get to know one another on line; and we are not talking about last years Instant Messaging, Discussion Boards, and Virtual Groups.

Social Networking comes in so many different forms today that the possibilities are endless, and Social Net-Workers themselves are very different types of people from all over the world. In fact, as Social Networking has gained its popularity and spread across the world, "virtual world" that is, some are just grasping the concept, while others have been working to perfect it and customize it for certain individuals with certain interests or faith.

There was MySpace and YouTube; we had MuslimSpace, and Islamic-tube. There have always been on line marriage websites for Muslims, but as Social Networking has grown, Muslims are coming up quickly this year.

In 2008, we were working out the kinks, but this year Muslim Social Networks have grown just as MySpace and YouTube did yesterday. We have surpassed them and have created a virtual world of our own. We have raised the bar and are setting an example for others.

There are many Muslims in Media; we are a generation that is modest, contemporary, and still hold firm to our values. We find that Social Networking has gone from last years simple custom profile pages, widgets, and groups, to utilizing other forms of media such as audio, video, text, photos, and more to provide a more interactive experience for Social Net-Workers.

Due to the hustle and bustle of life, you see more Social Networking taking place away from computers and more centering on mobile devices.
Many things that Muslims do within off-line communities you have began to see in on line mobile communities. We are a new generation and we are putting the technology that we use everyday to great use.

Muslim Social Networking is centered on learning and increasing knowledge. Classes are broad-casted visually and audibly; students are present in live and virtual classrooms. Students virtually raise their hands and use a stylist on their cell phones to write on virtual white boards for others to interact.
Digital Radio shows are broadcast and listeners interact via text, phone conferencing and much more.

We are finding that such mobile Social Networking has allowed Muslim communities to grow, and become more unified, in addition to also allowing others to see Muslim for who they really are, and enable to them to see we are not as different as people may think, but in fact we have more similarities than differences.

Very Nice!!! Clapping!!!! This new age of technology is hopefully opening doors of understanding across the globe. While we may have many differing belief systems on the planet - if everybody would take a minute to look up, I think that we'd all find only one Big Guy living upstairs. Social networking is a good thing for everybody involved: those participating and those reading the participations. Thank you for producing this well-written and informative article.
