My favorite is from Capital One with no hassle rewards because even if you don't receive a low APR in the beginning, you can always call in and try to have it lowered later on. When I first opened my account, I had an 18.99% APR which most of us will receive because our credit history is new or not as up to par as it should be but don't worry. It's fixable. I called in a year later giving myself enough time to build up my profile with the company as a loyal customer and they were able to lower my APR to 4.99%. See the big difference? Not only do I now have a super low interest rate, I have always had reward points and no annual fee, which is something you should always look for when applying for a new credit card. Lastly, if Capital One ever suspects any fraudulent activities on your account then they would give you a call to verify and you're not liable for any fraudulent charges and yes it's all free. I remember getting a phone call from them when I made some purchases while I was out of state.
The next must have credit card is from Providian because although the majority of us won't receive an invitation to their rewards program, there's another reason to have an account with them besides a very high credit limit and automated credit increases. Providian gives you online access to your FICO score for free so you won't need to purchase monthly credit protection anymore because you can view your FICO score, number of accounts opened and closed, inquiries, amount in debt, and bankruptcies. So if you ever suspect something is wrong then you can call in to one of the credit agencies to obtain a copy of your credit report because Providian does not go into that much detail. Also, there's no annual fee and I was also able to lower my APR to 8.99%. Also, since Providian was bought out by Washington Mutual, WaMu credit card holders should have the same privileges as old Providian account holders who are now WaMu account holders.
Lastly, the next credit card to have isn't much a must have but it's customer friendly and here's why. Sure, you can get no annual fee and rewards points but that's not the reasons why I love Discover. Although Discover isn't accepted everywhere like MasterCard and Visa, I enjoy Discover because I don't have to use my play hard tactics to lower my APR. They are willing to give me a super low APR without having to fight for it. All you have to do is just ask! You see, not every bank are willing to lower your interest rate because that means less money for them which means more hoops to jump through for you to get what you want. Discover isn't a must have but it's still nice to have.
If you don't have these three cards in your wallet then you're applying for the wrong credit cards! Don't be duped by your credit card companies.
