Must Have Fall Super Foods

At the end of August stores begin to fill with the flavors and scents of fall. These fruits and vegetables are a great way to bring both health and great taste to your table. There are so many ways that you can enjoy these healthy fall foods too.

Apples

This is a great tasting fruit that has a lot of vitamin C and antioxidants in it. There are a variety of different apples available to choose from, all of which contain the same benefits. The type of apple that you choose will depend upon what you want to do with it. For instance, if you want to snack on an apple, then you should choose a Red Delicious apple. However, if you are looking to bake a pie, then you will want to use a Golden Delicious apple.

Cranberries

Another one of the great seasonal super foods is cranberries. These tart, red berries will add a little zing to your meal while giving your immune system a boost and helping your urinary tract health too.

Mushrooms

This fall super food can be used for topping off meats or they can be seasoned and sautéed to enjoy all on their own. Regardless as to how you enjoy them, mushrooms are a great source of vitamin B, selenium and antioxidants.

Squash

While you may automatically think of pumpkins whenever you hear "squash," you should know that there are a lot of other types of squash too. This fall super food is packed full of vitamins and can be enjoyed in a soup, risotto or even as a desert.

Pumpkins and Sweet Potatoes

One of the healthy foods for fall that oftentimes gets overlooked is pumpkin. Together with sweet potatoes you will get plenty of vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, potassium and fiber. Whenever you are choosing these foods, make sure that they are full of color as you will then get the most vitamins out of them. Besides pie, you can also throw these into a stir-fry, risotto or salad. Just make sure that you save the seeds to roast so that you will get a lot of vitamin B too.

Dark Leafy Greens

Some of the fall super foods that are dark, leafy and green include broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, collards and turnips. You will definitely want to include these fall super foods in your diet because they contain a lot of calcium, iron and vitamin K.

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are another fall super food that is rich in antioxidants. Usually people will drink this as a juice but you can also sprinkle pomegranate seeds in your salad or on a rice pilaf.

Beets

If you are looking for a great tasting fall super food, then you should try beets. They are rich in vitamin B which helps your cell production and nerve functioning.

Beans

One of the other fall super foods that are worth mentioning is beans. With this fall super food you will get a lot of vitamin B, fiber, iron and protein. It is easy to include beans in any dish.
