First time travelers to London might have a tough time trying to decide what to do in the city. There are so many things to see, that it's hard to choose which things are worth checking out. This guide will show you the best attractions London has to offer, and give some advice on the best way to get around.
One of the first things to remember about London, and all major cities, is that it is not worth taking your car. The traffic is horrific, and the slowness will cut out valuable time from your day. The London underground is by far the quickest and cheapest way to get around (apart from walking). If you really don't fancy going on the Tube, cabs are still better than driving because there is less chance of getting lost!
Places to see
Oxford Street
Oxford Street is not so much an attraction as an amazing shopping experience. If you like a little retail therapy, you must go and spend some cash in some of the best shops Britain - and the world - has to offer. Many visitors from outside the UK think that it is a big deal to go to Harrods, because it is such an iconic store. I made this mistake the first time I went to London. There is nothing wrong with Harrods, but if your time is limited, it is better to see Oxford Street's variety, than one big store. If you can fit in both, do it, but if not, the high street is the way to go!
Buckingham Palace
It sounds like a bit of a cliché to suggest Buckingham Palace as a top place to see, but it would be crazy to visit London and not take a look at its beauty! Even if you don't spend much time there, it is quite breathtaking to imagine the Queen inside, and think about all of the things that have happened inside the historical building. At certain times of year, you can take a tour of the grounds and parts of the palace which is not to be missed if you enjoy things which are so traditionally British!

London Open Top Bus Tour
For first time visitors, there is nothing more interesting than an open top bus tour. You've all seen the classic red London buses, and if you book a tour, you get to ride one and see the best things the city has to offer. I took one of these rides the first time I went to London, and it was brilliant because it highlighted the places I wanted to see more of.
The London Eye
For an incredible view over all of London, you must visit the London Eye. Even if you are too afraid to take a ride, it is spectacular to look at, especially at night. If you are brave enough to hop into one of the roomy capsules, it's not like your average Ferris Wheel! It goes very slowly, and it takes 30 minutes to do the full circuit. If you are planning to visit with a loved one, you can even book a private capsule so you can enjoy the view without other tourists. Prices vary, but it is always better to book your tickets in advance.
