Must See Places in Coos Bay, OR

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a little town on the southern coast of Oregon called Coos Bay. My husband took me there for a Mother's Day retreat and it surely was a treat. There are some amazing sites to be seen in Coos Bay. Below I will describe a few of these spots that you must visit.

Shore Acres

Shore Acres has some very beautiful and majestic cliffs that will take your breath away. It costs $5 for a day pass and the views are well worth it. I have been to some of the beaches in northern Oregon and I don't think they can compare to what we saw here. Make sure to bring your camera as you are going to want to capture all of the lines, curves, and eroded rocks found at this park.

Cape Arago State Park

Cape Arago State Park is located nearby Shore Acres and also has some miraculous views. One of the highlights of visiting this park is getting to see the hundreds of seals sunbathing on the rocks. You can watch them leaping and swimming through the waters as well. Make sure to bring binoculars and a good zoom lens in order to see them though. It is well worth a visit when travelling to Coos Bay, OR.

Sunset Bay

This is the first stop that you will come across when travelling down Cape Arago Highway in Coos Bay. You will see a nice sandy beach with cliffs on each side. When we visited we saw lots of people boating and canoeing in the ocean. Kids will enjoy playing in the sand or playing on the tree with exposed roots. This would make a great spot for a family portrait as your family would be framed within the cliffs with a beautiful backdrop of the ocean.

When visiting Coos Bay, OR you may want to take a walk through the streets of downtown. There are some souvenir shops, a surf shop, floral shops, and other interesting shops to look at. While in town you may want to eat at one of the restaurants. We decided to eat at a little restaurant called High Tide Cafe that is technically in Charleston. This place caught our eye when we saw a sign claiming that they had won an award for their clam chowder. It definitely was an interesting clam chowder and definitely worthy of an award. The best dish in my opinion was the Baja Shrimp. If you love shrimp this has to be one of the best ways to eat it. One restaurant I would not recommend would be Sumin's which is a Chinese/Korean restaurant. Being Korean I was disappointed in their limited choices of Korean cuisine. The only positive was the friendly service we received when we ate there. But seriously corn does not belong in an oriental fried rice.

Coos Bay, OR may be a small town but it has a lot to offer those who wish to travel to the Oregon coast. If you want beautiful sites, a chance to view wildlife, and a place for some good seafood then Coos Bay is a must see town.
