Boys
Boys will be boys. They will always love anything that looks like a car or truck. Along comes the Transformers sequel and the transforming robot toys are back before they ever left. The Optimus Prime figure will have new attachments and Bumble Bee will still be enormously popular. A new addition in the Transformers lineup is the set of controversial Chevrolet twins, Skids and Mudflap.
Girls
Girls are still going for anything Hanna Montana or High School Musical. In fact, you can get a dollhouse play set under either brand name. Hanna Montana dolls are also very popular. Hanna toy guitars are a big hit; along with just about anything musical that comes in pink or purple.
Something for Each
Legos never go out of style. While boys often like them the most, there are sets available for both sexes, with movie and cartoon character themes. The most popular boy Lego toys are the Star Wars ship kits. Girls tend to prefer horse-themed models like the Belville line, featuring the models Horse Stable and Horse Jumping. The can also build the House model, creating an adorable homestead, complete with attached garage. Boys and girls both love the Sponge Bob line of Lego models.
Music Electronics
Boys and girls both love electronics. If your eight-year old does not have an iPod yet, expect to buy one soon, just get it in black or red for your boy and pink for your girl. Kids who already have iPods will love getting accessories. The iDog is a good example, being a small, dog-shaped mp3 speaker that will play your iPod music. The iHome is another good iPod accessory that charges the iPod and works as an alarm clock at the same time.
Video Electronics
Digital video recorders have come down so far in price that they now make excellent toys for children. Both boys and girls will love making their own movies or just videoing their friends. Just be sure to choose one that is exceptionally sturdy since eight-year-olds are not exactly known for their poise and grace!
