If you are new at homeschool, then you should know that there is a significant amount of investment into the homeschool supplies that you will need to use. Here is a brief list of some of the most common items that you will need:
Paper
You will need lined paper as well as computer paper so that you can take notes and print assignments from the computer. You may also need different types of paper for different projects, including construction paper or photo paper. Lined writing paper may be perfect for most lesson plans, but be sure to be flexible for those creative lesson plans or crafts.
Binders
Binders and folders are important for organizing your courses. Just like in traditional school, organization is essential to making sure that you have a prepare place for all of your items. Let your child decide how he or she wishes to organize his or her binder - and help him or her design their own tabs!
Writing utensils
Writing utensils such as pens, pencils, highlighters and markers will assure that you are able to take notes and to highlight certain sections of your materials. You will likely need to work out a system for use of these writing utensils. For example, most people find that mathematics needs pencils, while English needs pens.
Staples and other details
It is important that you think about the details when it comes to homeschool supplies. These details include everything from staples and paper clips to binder rings and post-it notes.
Teaching materials
Homeschool teachers need to be aware of the best materials available, such as posters, assignment sheets and manuals. These materials are essential to assuring that you teach the most current and advanced lessons available.
Homeschool supplies aren't always expensive, but be sure that you set aside a significant budget for them. Of course, it's always a good idea to share notes and materials with other homeschool teachers. Homeschool supplies generally don't last for more than one or two years because the lessons are learned and passed on. Therefore, try to build a network of other homeschool teachers to help alleviate the costs.
