Mutant Graduation

Justin Germino
This poem was written about someone graduating from college or high school, but the word mutants made me think of Professor X's Mutant Academy in X-Men, so I actually crafted the poem to be about a mutant kid graduating from that academy to keep with the spirit of the poem.

Mutant Graduation

Stepping from the shower
Moving eighty miles an hour

Moist skin dried by large towel
Perfume smelling, opposite of foul

Hairspray and makeup secured
Today's destiny is assured

Graduation is this great milestone
Showing just how much you've grown

Hostile apparition of your past mistakes
Faded and gone are those pains and aches

Full of confidence and hope as you get dressed
You will arrive in a jalopy, but you will look your best

Now movement is heard down the stairs
You call you are ready, as everyone prepares

The propinquity of the ceremony means you will arrive quick
You laugh to yourself "What if this is all one big trick?"

As you are driven just a few blocks away
You see your friends goofing around in play

Some people would call you mutants in fear
But all you can think about is graduation so near
