My 10 Worst Performing Articles of All Time
When You Write, Hope, and Then an Article Just Fails to Launch
As authors we always want our articles to perform well and to be seen by a good sized audience.
We write, we put a lot of effort into trying to make the wording, the content, and the layout just right. Then we publish the article, we promote it on other sites too, wait to see what happens, and then to our dismay we find that nobody comes knocking at the door.
When the few people who have actually paid a visit to an article left comments to say that they really enjoyed what you wrote, you feel that you must be doing something right, and yet day after day the visitors fail to arrive.
It's almost as if Obi Wan Kenobi is standing guard over your articles, and telling anyone who passes by "Nothing to see here, move along".
Having been on Yahoo Contributor Network for 18 months now and having seen the visitor numbers to my articles old and new just keep declining, I thought it was time to introduce you to My Ten Worst Performing Articles Of All Time.
Of course I quite expect that this article too will be soon included in that number, especially if old Obi Wan is staying alert, but hopefully, with a little bit of luck, one or more of those sad neglected articles might get to see the light of day again. I do hope so.
And so without any further waffling on, here they are in ascending rank by page view. It's nice to note also that some of the poems have been nicely messed up by YCN so that somehow the verses are split incorrectly. I hope I can do some editing before you read this:
Saturday Morning (39 page views, published 6th Feb 2010). A poem about waking up on a Saturday Morning.
Another Thursday Morning (44 page views, published 4th Feb 2010). The radio brings back memories of good times when driving to work in the rain.
Spilt On A Quilt (48 page views, published 12th Feb 2010). A Limerick that was written for St. Patrick's Day.
Tempus Fugit (49 page views, published 11th Feb 2010). A short poem about time flying by.
Tripping And Slipping (49 page views, published 12th Feb 2010). A Limerick that was written for St. Patrick's Day.
Saturday Evening (50 page views, published 8th Feb 2010). A short poem about waking up on Sunday morning after having had friends round for dinner the night before.
The Flowers That Bloom In The Spring (52 page views, published 12th Feb 2010). A Limerick about spring flowers.
Three Christmas Treats On Television In The UK (55 page views, published 23rd Dec 2010). An article about some good Christmas television shows in the UK. The shows were a hit, the article wasn't.
Learning The Hard Way Or Asking For Help (57 page views, published 21st Jan 2010). An article about whether it's best to struggle on, or just bite the bullet and ask for help.
Thoughts For a Thursday Morning (60 page views, published 4th Feb 2010). A poem that came to me while stuck in traffic on a wet dark winter morning.
I think that having gone through this list of poorly performing articles, I have realized a few truths about my writing:
Don't publish articles in February.
Don't write poems, certainly not Limericks.
I hope that you can prove me wrong, and let me know that my writing efforts are worthwhile.
Sorry about the formatting errors. If you do see any, it means I haven't been able to edit the article yet. I only just noticed that these were messed up today.
