My 27 Year Old Husband Had a Heart Attack?

My 27 year old Husband had a Heart Attack?

My Twenty-seven year old husband had a heart attack? This was the question I had when my husband was told he was having a heart attack after going to an urgent care for what he thought was a virus. He was away from home and had gotten ill so I looked up the closest urgent care so that he could get some relief from his otherwise ordinary virus.

Having a loved one who is sick is a bad experience but when your loved one is 400 miles away and alone in a strange city you never want that call that they are ill. My husband who had gone way on a business trip for training and became ill. He sought the medical attention of an urgent care. He thought he had the same bug that myself and daughter had just before he left for his trip, but he was in for a shocker when he got to the urgent care and they tell him he is having a heart attack. He had felt worse than he ever had ever felt before and had been throwing up for the past two days. He was a medically trained person and didn't realize it was this bad.

My husband who is a professional fireman and EMT studying to be a Paramedic is in great shape and just a little over weight like most of us. He was told he was having a heart attack. When he called and told me they were running blood work to see if the enzymes were there to conclude it was in fact a heart attack I was shocked. I was torn as to what I could do for him. He was so far away and I myself had bronchitis and asthma. I was not sure if I could or should make the drive alone. My husband had asked me not to tell his parents since they were not 100% sure this was really a heart attach. Know keep in mind that my husband is only 27. He is a young health man who is very active as his profession requires. I could not believe he could actually be having a heart attack, but the EKG doesn't lie or does it?

After having the daylights scared out of us they come back an tell us that my husband has a Hiatal Hernia which can imitate the same symptoms as a heart attack. We weren't in the clear yet though because he had elevated enzymes which means he might actually be having a heart attack so they were taking him by ambulance to the hospital for further testing. I was so scared and had decided I was going to get down there one way or another.

At this point we had contacted his work and the first thing they did without any request was pick me up and drove me the 400 miles to him. They sent a fellow fireman from their group who was close by to sit with my husband until I could join him. The fire department was absolutely wonderful. I never had to ask for anything it was all done for me. They were even ready to have someone come watch the children so that I didn't have to worry about them.

After a long drive which seemed like it took forever, I was finally with my husband. During my road trip to see him, they had discovered that he was suffering from that hernia and that while he had elevated enzymes they were most likely fine. He was to follow up with a stress test and see a physician about the hernia. He was going to be just fine. I arrived to him just as he was being released and to see him never felt so good.

The word Heart Attack drives fear into our hearts. We fear what we can not repair. We fear what we can not see. To be told at age 27 that you are having a heart attack places that fear with you for a long time. If he had not gone to that urgent care that day who know it really could have been a heart attack. I am thankful that it was not a heart attack and that he will be fine. I am also so very grateful for all that his fellow fireman did for us in our time of crisis. Being a part of an organization like a fire department is like having an extended family where ever you go.
