During the AC Twitter challenge I concentrated more on my fellow AC writers who are on Twitter. Previously I interacted with many non writer types from conservative politics and sports interests. One thing about fellow writers here, they WILL click our links and leave a comment. They are also quick to pass on a link via RT's (Retweeting-reposting) the article to their own followers on Twitter.
Some of my favorite AC writers on Twitter are @PoeticHeart34, @RissaWatkins, @Lynnmac04 @Ldyjarhead@LangleyCornwell, @acpamelag, @NoFrillsGreece and last but not least @byfaithonly. There are more but I am dreading linking all those profiles lol.
The fact that AC does not let us see our stats makes using any advertising a stab in the dark. I think Twitter helps our articles, but I can't know for sure. From time to time people use their Twitter name and make a comment.
I was Twittering heavily in the conservative political movement in the past and didn't see much difference in my stats, on those types of articles. However when I switched into more of a sports crowd on Twitter, I noticed hits seem to improve on my football articles. Sports fans on Twitter like to read about sports and not just tweet slogans at each other. However my right wing friends are more likely to retweet my articles than the sports fans are.
I try to target my followers on Twitter by seeing who is Tweeting. I have targeted political fans, sports fans, and North Carolina residents. Other than that I don't look for people to follow and just follow back my new followers.
If I see one of my fellow football fans is Tweeting, I will post a few football articles. If I see a North Carolina person is active, I post one of my NC based articles. Same for the political stuff, but not as much since it don't seem to pay off in hits.
Since I did pay more attention to my fellow AC writers, during the Twitter challenge, it paid off. I found new people whose stuff I enjoy reading, and they seem to like even my lame poetry or lie very well.
To sum this up, Twitter is a good platform for us. But until we have access to our writer stats, it is hard to tell HOW good it is.

Had to come back and say, just joined Twitter due in part to Randy's helpful hints! thanks, Randy. @sheryltruth.
I bet Twitter is an especially good fit for your sports and political content. Too bad you can't tell for sure.
I have to agree. I would love to be able see the stats for our articles, so that we can know for sure what is working and what isn't. Great article!
Tweet, Tweet, Bitch!
I love twitter. I've been using hootsuite and it makes things so easy.
I have favorite lists that I keep up with. The rest I pay attention to, if I see something on the screen.
I don't know how you can follow what's going on with Twitter - you're following over 6,000 people! You certainly deserve an award for that! :-)
Ahhh love ya Randy and thanks for the mention :) I have noticed my pvs increase tremendously since joining twitter - I have changed much of anything else so have to believe it's helped me, would love to be able to see more details of our hits here on AC though :)
I have yet to succumb to Twitter.
