My American Heroes of 2006

Alisha Jett Christian
Well, it's that time of year again; time to look back and measure accomplishments and failures of ourselves and our country. I'd like to take this time to recognize those people I consider to be American heroes. Without further ado, these are my Heroes of 2006; in alphabetical order as I could not rightly list one over another in all cases.

Ann Coulter

Ann Coulter is a savvy, intelligent, no-nonsense woman whom I admire profusely. Ann Coulter's articles are hard-hitting and right on point. She says things that need to be said even when nobody else is brave enough to say them. Ms. Coulter is fed up with the ridiculous way people act these days. She's tired of political correctness that is used like a bludgeon on regular people just trying to speak their minds. Ann Coulter speaks for those who cannot speak for themselves and for that I salute this amazing lady and consider Ann Coulter to be a great American Hero of 2006!

Bill O'Reilly

Bill O'Reilly is tough, fair and very intelligent. He does everything he can to make sure Americans get the real story so they can then decide what to think and what to do. I appreciate Bill O'Reilly's efforts on my part and the part of all Americans. Without this Bill O'Reilly, I feel we would still be getting whatever the media decided we were worthy of receiving. Bill O'Reilly doesn't talk down to "the folks"; he talks "to" them. This is a very big deal to me and for that, I consider Mr. O'Reilly to be a great American Hero of 2006!

George W. Bush, President

President George W. Bush is truly an American Hero. Not only has President Bush had to deal with one of the most difficult presidencies in American history, due to the attack of terrorists on our home soil, but he has also had to deal with apathetic Americans who would rather forget about what happened than deal with it and who have criticized him, unceasingly, for daring to step forward to handle the terrorist situation on all fronts. President George W. Bush is a wonderful, loving, caring man who is also strong, tough and cunning when he needs to be. If not for President George W. Bush, all Americans would be fighting terrorists on our soil instead of in Iraq. Though there are many other admirable qualities I could discuss, this is the main reason I consider President George W. Bush to be a great American Hero of 2006.

Laura Bush, First Lady

Laura Bush is a wonderful, loving, very intelligent woman who has touched America in so many ways. One of those ways is Laura Bush's support of her husband, President George W. Bush, during these times of terrorist attacks and tough decisions of war. Laura Bush has stood beside and behind her husband, offering him love, support and understanding throughout all the difficulties George W. Bush has experienced as President of the United States of America. It is quite easy to see that Laura Bush's support has meant a great deal to our President and I'm so happy that she has been the First Lady throughout all these turbulent times. Not only has Laura Bush's support been essential to our President, her steadfastness and kind smile has also been a balm and strength to the American people as we weather these chaotic times. For this, I consider Laura Bush to be a great American Hero of 2006.

Michelle Malkin

Michelle Malkin is a witty, courageous and strong woman who has had her eyes on our borders for quite some time now. I first learned of Michelle Malkin while watching an episode of The O'Reilly Factor where she discussed just how dangerous things were and are with our Mexican borders right now. Michelle Malkin is simply brilliant as she shares fact after indisputable fact as to why our borders are unsafe. Though Bill O'Reilly was the first to really bring the Border issue to the public awareness, Michelle Malkin has been a very important ally with her factual data that supports and elaborates on Bill O'Reilly's statements. Michelle Malkin has also started a wonderful website called Hot Air dot com. I urge you to check it out for some very titillating and informative video blogs. Michelle Malkin's contributions to our society are the reason I consider her to be a great American Hero of 2006.

Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrich is a man of many talents. I've spent the entire year getting to know Newt Gingrich and I like what I see. I truly hope Newt runs for President in 2008. I've watched Newt Gingrich a great deal on the Fox News Channel as a Fox Contributor. Newt Gingrich has a lot to say and a lot of what he says is worth hearing. Despite obstacles in his past, both personal and public, he has continued to learn, grow and develop into a wonderful, well-rounded person who wants nothing more than to make American all it can be. All of these things are the reason I think Newt Gingrich is a great American Hero of 2006.

U.S. Military and their families

Our U.S. Military and their families have carried 2006 with their hard work and dedication to America and her people. Their sacrifice and willingness to stand between Americans and terrorists is reason enough to see all of them as true American Heroes of 2006. We must also remember the families behind our troops. Mothers, Fathers, Wives, Children, Brothers and Sisters have stood behind their family members enrolled in the U.S. Military with all they have and they deserve to be listed as great American Heroes of 2006 as well.

Volunteers

This year we have had many reasons to need Volunteers, just as in years past. America is still recovering from Katrina, 9/11 and a myriad of other troubles such as poverty, homelessness and hunger. American volunteers have truly gone above and beyond the duty of citizens to reach out and lift others up from the darkness. I am always amazed and humbled by the kindness in a Volunteer's heart and that is why I think Volunteers are great American Heroes of 2006.

Conclusion

There are many more people I could add to my list, but I think I'll keep it short and sweet. These people truly shaped 2006 for me and my family. My Heroes have given me peace of mind during this time of war. These American Heroes of 2006 have helped my family when we couldn't help ourselves. They have stimulated my mind and helped me to see things I normally wouldn't have looked for. All in all, my Heroes for 2006 have made my life better in every way possible and for that I say "Thank You" to each and all those on my list of American Heroes of 2006. Thank you!

Stephen, thank you so much for your kind words. I have so much respect for you! I also try to enjoy the writer and their style as much, if not more, than what they are actually writing about. Again, thank you for the compliment.

I may not agree with what you say, but you say it well. Good article.
