My Appearance on The Fairness Doctrine

A Dialogue with Chuck Morse and Patrick O' Heffernan

David Whitsell
Recently, I chatted it up with Patrick O' Heffernan and Chuck Morse on Fairness Doctrine. The show aired from 3:00pm-5:00pm on WDIS AM 1170 EST http://www.wdisam.com/shows/fairdoc (June 11, 2010). The topic was Chuck Morse's book - The Nazi Connection To Islamic Terrorism.

First off, there is a connection between Islamic terrorism and the Nazi regime. I do not challenge that and the historical attestation for such is strong. What I did challenge Chuck and Patrick on (actually Patrick was more in the role of a host or mediator) was the idea that if Islam was somehow "de-nazified" it would be peaceful.

Both Chuck and Patrick were hospitable and respectful. From my end, they seemed to concede that maybe they were/are over optimistic and had been misled that any lasting peace could be had in the Middle East (especially with regards to Israel). The sad thing is they are far from alone in their over optimism towards Islam. Chuck seemed to acknowledge this, especially with regards to the persecution of Christians in the Middle East. I mentioned the issue of apostasy in Islam, and Chuck and I agreed that according to Sunni Islamic jurisprudence apostasy is to be punished by death.

I do not see how any real "peace" can be had in light of such issues. As it pertains to Israel, the vast majority of Muslims (including scholars and members of the Ulemma) view the land known as "Israel" or "Palestine" as within the domain of Islam and as such can never be under anything but Islamic rule. This is definitely true of the two strongest political powers in Palestine - the Palestinian Liberation Organization (Fatah) and Hamas; neither recognizes Israel, under any geographic configuration, as a sovereign and legitimate nation. While some of this (current) animosity can be traced to the inculcation of Nazi values and rhetoric, much of it is endemic to Islam. In fact, it is this author's belief that it was this predisposition that allowed any Nazi ideals to take root in the first place. Again, how can any group reason with political factions as such?

Hopefully, in the future, I will get another chance to discuss these issues with Chuck at length. The kind folks over at The Fairness Doctrine were nice enough to overnight a copy of Chuck's book to me. I received it in time to read the front and back covers, plus the introduction, in time for the program. Look forward to a review of Chuck Morse's book - The Nazi Connection To Islamic Terrorism from yours truly.
