I look down
At my arm
Examining past scars
And remembering
All of the pain
That I alleviated
By my cutting
And I can't help
But think
What my heart
Would look like
If it bore
Every scar
It would probably be
So damaged
It would no longer
Even be able to beat
And so my scars
Were not as damaging
As my alternative
Just my chosen
Form of expression
