My Baby Went to Heaven Last Night

We Do Not Grieve like the Rest Who Have No Hope - I Thess. 4:13

Jack Wellman
My first cousin's baby girl of 5 died in a tragic accident Saturday night so I might not be able to comment on your articles for a while. She was traveling with her mom on a freeway when a truck, heading in the wrong direction and in the wrong lane, collided head on with her car. It is hard to write this but I wanted to share the story of what had happened. After visiting with my cousin in the hospital she is, thanks be to God, alright. Her surgery was successful. It is a miracle that she survived.

What is ironic and how emotional was the fact that just before the accident the five-year-old who died, Amber, just asked her mom, "What does God look like?" Amber's mom, Michelle, said I don't know but you'll find out some day. Her baby girl did find out within a matter of minutes.

Please keep her and her husband and the Queen family in your prayers as this is a big struggle although there is some comfort knowing that their baby girl Amber is in heaven today. Just before the accident, Amber was just asking Michelle "What does God look like?"

Marvin Queen is my first cousin. Also, pray for Marvin's neighbor who lost their 2 year old toddler yesterday and they are taking it very hard. Marvin knows CPR but he was unable to revive the toddler yesterday. Marvin had a very rough 24 hours.

The biggest difference with believers is that they have the promise of seeing their baby again and that babies, young children, infants, and toddlers that die go straight into the presence of the Lord. Paul says in I Thessalonians 4:13, "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope." Second Samuel 12:23 assures us that these ones so young and tender and all so innocent go to heaven as David said after his and Bathsheba's baby died, "...now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me."

My cousin knows that she will see her daughter again since she is a believer in Christ Jesus. Yes, it is still incredibly painful and there will be so much grief, but she also knows that she will see her again some day in heaven. I asked your prayers for their family and ours in this is a very difficult time. However, funerals of believers are quite different from those who don't know Christ. It is somewhat comforting, yet I still cried when my cousin told me this after losing her daughter but she can say with assurance, "My darling knows what God looks like now...my baby went to heaven last night".
