My Barbados Trip

Fun and Frolic in the Sun

Barbados is a lovely place to visit. Most of what you see on the television and magazines seems to be true but going and seeing it for yourself is much better. Seeing is believing and memories are things to treasure.

Now let me take you on my trip to Barbados. The first step was to book a plane ticket and make my reservation for a Hotel. Once completed it was down to counting down the days to my trip from the cold to a nice warm sun, lovely breeze, white sandy beaches and away from people that know me.

The plane touch down and landed in Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados after what seemed like forever. Being the third flight I was on for the day, I just wanted to hit the bed, and wake up and run straight to beach in the morning. After clearing immigration and customs, collecting my bags, I embarked on my "total relaxation" vacation. I took taxi to the hotel, which was just about a short 20 minute drive, the drive was very pleasant as I let the window down and let the breeze blow through my hair. The driver was very sociable and was filling me in on all the places to go and that I must make sure to go and visit "Harrison Cave" and eat some grill food from "Baxters" Road and some fish from "Oistins". I wrote down the places that sounded the most interesting and took my bags to the hotel lobby. I check-in to my room took a shower and off to bed, thinking about my day at the beach.

The next morning, I woke up not as early as I would of liked, but seeing I was on vacation, and in the tropics, it fit perfectly into stride. I grabbed my swim wear, sunblock, water and book and set off to sample the Caribbean sea and sand for myself. Oh what a sight for sore eyes, the water was as blue and clear as nothing I had seen before and I had been to California and Florida , the white sand looked so soft and comfortable that I took off my shoes right away and after standing and soaking in the ambiance for a few minutes I took a stroll along the shoreline. After a few relaxing hours, just soaking in the sea and the sun. I went for my first swim in the Caribbean sea, so I take off running start and dive off in the crystal clear blue water, yes crystal clear blue water and with a few splashes I am swimming with all the fish in the ocean. After swimming around for a few hours and enjoying the sun and water, I finally got up to go and look for something to eat.

My hotel was right next to this small shopping complex, with different food places to eat. So I strolled across the road and just looked around for a place to eat. By this time every "Bajan" was telling me that it would be a huge injustice to leave the island and not sample their local variation to KFC called "chefette". So I decided to get that out of the way so that I would be free to indulge in all the other activities of the island. So I ventured over checked out the menu, and decided to order their 2 pc meal, with fries (they call it a "snack box") and a roti along with a drink called "mauby" . The snackbox was different in it taste, its more spicy than I was used to, and the roti is filled with curry, so if you are a curry lover, then a roti is right up your street. The mauby drink is not a soda and it had a distinct and interesting taste, which I cant seem to find the words to express, so you will have to try it for yourself.

After eating and a short visit to my room to shower and change it was back to what would hopefully be my routine for the next few days, off to the beach to sit and read a good book, enjoy the therapeutic nature of the ocean, then off to have a swim until sunset, along with taking some pictures to send back home so that I could be the envy of all my friends. Stayed turned for the other parts to complete my trip experience...
