My Best Bit of Wedding Advice

My Best Friend is Always Right

Jenn Greenleaf
I was recently married on July 18, 2009 and, believe me; a lot of advice was given surrounding this event. We heard from friends, family, and people we rarely talk to about the various who's, what's, and where's of it all. However, there was one bit of wedding advice that stood out from all the rest and it was received from my best friend:

The day should be about the two of you, and for the two of you.

What she meant was, even though many people were talking to us about how they believed our wedding should be planned and eventually turn out to be, it all boils down to one simple fact: it is about what we want. When dealing with so many different people giving advice, it's difficult not to step on any toes and hurt anyone's feelings. So, taking this advice was not easy.

My husband and I did take her advice, though, and we did make the day about the two of us and it was for the two of us. The event was exactly what we wanted, and it turned out to be our definition of perfection. That's what really matters in the end. Years from now, the sour feelings will fade and the memories of a happy day will be present in everyone's mind. At least that's what we're hoping for!
