My Biggest Fan - a Mother's Day Poem

Nikki
I've said it before and I'll say it now, I am not a poet and do not claim to have any talent in this area. Mother's Day poems convey the deep feelings of love we have in our heart for the special woman we consider to be our mom. The special woman can be a birthmother, adoptive mother, stepmother, grandmother, aunt, sister, or any other woman who has nurtured us.

My reason for attempting to write a mother's day poem is to give tribute to the woman who shaped the person I am today. My mother ... my best friend ... my biggest fan.

From the earliest moments I can remember
You were my biggest fan.
No matter what heartache my actions would render
You were my biggest fan.

Me a wild rebel child in teenage form
You were my biggest fan.
Me cold hearted - you weary and worn
You were my biggest fan.

Discovering your teenager was an unwed mother
You were my biggest fan.
Through one heartache after another
You were my biggest fan.

Stitching my self esteem back together after domestic abuse
You were my biggest fan.
Holding me tight and never letting loose
You were my biggest fan.

Cheering me on through cancer and chemo
You were my biggest fan.
Trying to hide your tears so I would be strong - Oh
You were my biggest fan.

My mom is a true mother, a mommy, a mom. She is the definition of a nurturer, defender, shelter in the storm, and gentle loving shoulder. If you are lucky enough to have this kind of rare dear soul for a mother, you know what I am talking about. My friends all wanted to come to my house just to hang out and talk to her, because we could always talk to her about anything. Honestly, still to this day, my friends still call my mother just to talk to her and get advice. Some of my old boyfriends even still keep in touch with her!

Mom, I wish I had the talent to write you a better mother's day poem, but poetry just isn't one of my gifts! This mother's day poem was written out of a desire to show you how very special you are to me and how instrumental you have been in my life and the lives of my own children. You taught me how to love by loving me with a pure unconditional love. You taught me how to give to others by watching you give of yourself. You taught me how to love God by being His light. You taught me how to be strong by fighting for me when others would have given up. You are my best friend ... thank you for loving me when others would have walked away and for always being my biggest fan!

Nikki, I am in tears over this poem. My mommy is in heaven now, but she was such a good mom. Your poem is absolutely beautiful and written straight from your heart. I love it. I have another woman in my life who also has the title of "Mother" she is the woman who sort of adopted me when I needed a mom the most after my own mom passed away. Wonderful poem!

Nikki, poetry is more than words in verse...what you have written is indeed beautiful poetry!

This is wonderful! Needs no "poetic improvement". Unfortunately, I never had a mom who was like this. God Bless!
