My Biggest New Year Resolution: Getting Published in the Popular Magazines

Rama lingam
As the New Year 2009 is fast approaching, I am inching closer to my cherished ambition: of becoming a published writer in India and elsewhere in the world, where English is spoken and written.

There are some valid reasons for me for choosing this ambition as a topmost New Year resolution. First of all I have discovered, somewhat belatedly, that I have a passion for writing. About a year ago I began to blog in Writing Campus.com and then switched over to Citizen Journalism in Ground Report.com. In the meanwhile, though I registered as a member in the Ezine Articles.com, a year ago, I was overawed by the profiles of expert authors as well as the three tier system of submitting articles as a basic, basic+ and platinum members. Hence I shied away from it.

During August, 2008, it was one of my friends who invited me to Helium.com to write articles and participate in topics of debate etc, which I found quite interesting and suited me very well. Boosting up in confidence, about six months ago I began submitting articles in the Ezine Articles.com also and now I am on the verge of becoming a platinum member.

However at Helium.com, though I submitted my articles continuously and they also enjoyed top rankings, still one of my top articles which enjoyed No.1 ranking for over three months was unceremoniously deleted on the pretext that it was falling short of publishing standards. I felt really painful and ignominious since my article was deleted without any rhyme or reason.

However, I was motivated and I got my flair and passion for writing sharpened and whetted; my writing also improved by leaps and bounds as I began to write regularly.I have also got my mental horizon widened by visiting and reading writers premium sites like Writers Digest.com, Writers Bureau.com, Easy Way to Write, Writing World.com, Fan Story.com, Writingfordollars.com and Filbert Publishers.com etc. Now I have realized that the Writers World is entirely a different world and larger than the real world itself.

Considering the fierce competition prevailing in the writing world and the ever growing scope of all genres of writing, I realized that I have a long way to go to establish myself as a writer. Hence, becoming an established writer is a long term goal. Therefore, I have to necessarily set up only short term goals, which I consider reasonably feasible or possible. Therefore, getting published in the popular magazines in India and elsewhere in the world is my target that I have set up as my biggest New Year Resolution

However, getting published in popular magazines is by no means an easy achievement .as well as an ambition. To keep my ambition alive and reach my target, I have proposed to follow these five ways:-

1) I have proposed to write continuously in popular sites like Helium.com and Associated Content.com etc to improve my style of writing. These sites provide umpteen numbers of opportunities to write in different genres, besides providing earning opportunities in tune with my hard work.

2)I wish to subscribe for more popular newsletters like Writingfordollars.com, Writers Bureau.com etc so as to update myself with current marketing trends and to refresh myself with the articles of popular writers.

3)A good writing emanates from a good reading. Therefore, to be a voracious reader of all kinds of books and magazines is yet another important way of keeping my ambition alive and inching towards my ambition. Subscribing to popular magazines like Writers Digest etc is another step in the right direction, to constantly remind me of my cherished ambition.

4)Attending to some writers workshops and have as many free writing classes as possible will be very useful from a writer's point of view; frequently and regularly practicing writing using writing prompts will sharpen my writing skills.

5) Writing classes in all genres are frequently conducted in US as well as England, based on fee system. The best way of equipping myself in any particular genre of writing is joining in a class conducted by a reputed institution.I have proposed to join in the 'Comprehensive Writing Course' conducted by the Writers Bureau, based in UK.I hope to increase my writing skill in all genres of writing by joining the above course and I fervently hope that I will get published before I finish the course.

I am damn sure that my articles will be published in the popular magazines in the year 2009, if I strictly adhere to the above mentioned 5 ways. I am eagerly looking forward to the New Year, 2009.
