My Cat the Acrobat

Shirley A Mandel
All God's animals are facinating creatures, and sometimes my own little kitty, Scamper, does the darndest things. One morning I drove up the road a ways to check on my elderly Mom. When I arrived home to my place, as I was pulling into the driveway, I saw Scamper through the window just hanging there by his claws from the upper window ledge, with his body danglilng in thin air.

My first thought was, "Oh no, the cat done hung himself!" But my second thought was, "How did he do that?" The ledge at the top of the window is only about a half an inch wide and made out of aluminum. There is nowhere up there into which he can dig his claws. I have replacement windows, and I live in a double-wide trailer, so there are no window sills where he can sit.

Yet he was detemined to somehow look out and watch the birds fly by, and the little acrobat found a way. These kinds of feats are the wonder of God's animals. They can turn this way and that, jump from tree to tree, and some can even run as fast as a car can go. They can do things that our well trained Olympic athletes only dream of doing.

All this wonder is God's handiwork. Creation did not get here by itself. The psalmist wrote, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." He also wrote, "It is He that has made us and not we ourselves." So, let us praise Him "all creatures great and small." And let us give credit where credit is due.
