My Child is Left Handed: Helpful Information

Many parents, teachers and caretakers underestimate some every day issues children who are left handed experience. Some of the more common issues these children may have include using scissors, learning to write or even getting dressed. Here is a look at some good resources for parents with left handed children.

The Left Handers Club is a free club that sends out newsletters via email filled with great information for anyone left handed or for parents with children who are left handed. This special club also sends out helpful information on special products and services that are specifically for those who are left handed. Parents who are interested can check them out here.

Anything Left Handed store is the perfect place for parents to shop for specific items for their left handed child. They carry things such musical instruments for those who are left handed as well as special scissors and even pencil sharpeners. The main shop is based in the UK but they have a US partner store that can be visited here.

An excellent web site that contains a wealth of information for parents of left handers can be found at lefthandedchildren.org. At this site there are different guides to assist parents with issues such as handwriting, letter formation as well as different links to other sites that will be of use to those who are left handed.

Another useful site is Being Left Handed. Here parents will find a number of different, interesting facts about those who are born left handed as well as just about anything else associated with the left handed world including a special section dedicated just to left hand nicknames! There are also lists of popular musicians, artists, and athletes who are left handed that older kids may find interesting.

Parents should never attempt to switch their child over to being right handed and should instead embrace their child and help encourage them. Parents can even help their children celebrat their being left handed on International Left- Handers Day on August 13th! Becoming Informed and educated on the left handed world is the best way help your child succeed and go through life.
