My Children's Father

A Poem for Father's Day

Barbie Crafts
I handed him my first-born child and saw the light come on;

He wore a gown and face mask with the mantle that he donned.

That moment he became a dad, a Father to a Son;

His former life he put aside, another had begun.

Through the years of smiles and tears, I've seen him still remain;

A Dad to both my children, and I'm proud to bear his name.

He wrapped around the finger of a little doll in pink;

He easily and gently learned the way that daughters think.

With patience, love and wisdom, he has steered our little boat;

Quietly standing at the helm, he kept it all afloat.

I've seen his shoulders sagging, with burdens he won't share;

I've seen him at the table with his head bowed down in prayer.

He's set a good example for his children all along;

They knew he'd always be there with a silly joke or song.

His son respects his father and I think he said it best.

If I am half the man he is, I'll know I've passed the test.
