My Child's Father

Jaded

Every night he asks for you, and you answer him with a smile and a welcome hug
It's guys time only, and mommies aren't allowed
I sneak a peek around the corner, jumping back again
Getting caught is a serious offense, and I can't take my chances
Those memories that I steal from you light within me
And every so often, I shed a tear or two
Whisper a thank you up to God.
The love you share amazes me
And you... you make my heart proud
The first time I saw you, I knew
"This one, finally, is the one"
My heart sang out to me, and I am thankful that I listened
There is no other man with whom I'd want this life
No better father I could ask for, for my child
And sometimes, I just don't think that you know.

Happy Father's Day
