One day, a few years ago, I woke up with pink eyes. Naturally, I went to visit the doctor to figure out what was wrong with my eyes. It turns out that I had allergic conjunctivitis. The doctor prescribed me some eye drops and I did use the eye drops in my eyes to try to rid myself of that awful thing called "allergic conjunctivitis". I was not impressed at all by my eyes being pink, and thankfully the eye drops that I used did tremendously help the allergic conjunctivitis that I had, and the allergic conjunctivitis eventually went away after around two to three days. Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of allergic conjunctivitis.
What Caused My Allergic Conjunctivitis
Originally, I believed that the cause of the allergic conjunctivitis I had was old mascara. I wear quite a bit of makeup, because I am a big fan of makeup. The first thing that came to my mind was that old mascara must've caused my allergic conjunctivitis. Well, then after I got over the allergic conjunctivitis, I decided to look in another direction: my eye shadows. I noticed one day after I got over the allergic conjunctivitis, that my eyes were starting to get pink again. I was hoping that I was not going to have a full bout of allergic conjunctivitis again. Thankfully, they didn't get too pink, and I was able to cope with them. That day I happened to be wearing purple eye shadow. Yes, purple eye shadow. I cannot remember the exact name of the eye shadow that I was wearing, but its color was purple. Anytime I happened to wear certain purple eye shadows after I got over the allergic conjunctivitis, the allergic conjunctivitis would flair up again. I decided that certain purple eye shadows just weren't made to be worn by me. My eyes didn't agree with some purple eye shadows. The funny thing is that only a few purple eye shadows bother my eyes - not all of them. I'm thinking it may be due to the different formulas of the purple eye shadows.
I Figured It Out, and Now Warn Others
So, if you recently were diagnosed with allergic conjunctivitis, or have very pink or red eyes (and wear purple eye shadow), then that eye shadow could definitely be the culprit. I, for one, am very careful in choosing the eye shadows that I wear to make sure none are going to cause me to have allergic conjunctivitis again. I don't like allergic conjunctivitis, and it's definitely not my friend. I try to warn people about the dangers of wearing some types of purple eye shadow. I don't like to see people suffer from allergic conjunctivitis like I did at one time.

Post a CommentI thought I was alone... I bought the new Chanel waterproof eyeliner in Garnet. Wore it and had a reaction. I thought it was my mascara. Returned the liner. Bought another brand Mirabella in a purple and had the worst reaction! My eyes were reddish pink! :-( Both liners have a glitter/ metallic to them. When I removed both liners they come off on my cotton pad pinkish not purple. I'm thinking there must be an agent in the red pigment that makes up the color purple? Or the specs in the liner in reaction with the pigment? I'm going to try Nars purple in a few weeks. The color does not contain any glitter and is a blue purple. I'm a makeup junky and I have NEVER had an allergic reaction to any cosmetic... Until now!?!
I have the most problem w/ pink eyeshadow, but any color, including purples and bronzes, that has a red tone to it causes me problems. I, too, love to wear makeup and feel it gives me a much more professional image. I do wear some of these colors but only on my brow bone and in my crease. I also tap the brush to prevent any loose particles from falling in my eyes.
My allergic conjuctivitis started years ago with purple shadow. It then seemed to be anything with a pinkish tone, then even brown. Now I cannot wear any eye make up at all, not even clear mascara.
I am even afraid to get lash tint.
The same thing happens to me - I've tried two brands of purple eyeliner and one purple eye shadow and I always get very pink eyes the next day! I've never had it happen with any other color makeup, and I also wear a fair bit! I wonder what it is about purple that causes it??
The same thing happens to me. Everytime I wear purple eyeliner or shadow I wake up with pink eye the next morning--WoW!
