This year I am planning on travelling for spring break. However, this year will be different as I am on a tight budget and I am going to stick it. I don't want to spend a lot of money and so have cut back on accommodation and travel as much as I can.
The first area where I slashed the costs for my trip was with accommodation. Normally I try to get the best accommodation I possibly can, no matter what the cost. However, this trip I have decided to create a budget as to how much I want to spend on my accommodation. From here I found accommodation that fit perfectly well within my budget. I mean, OK it's not glamorous, it's not a 5-star hotel, but heck it's a clean bed and bathroom, which is what it is really all about.
I have also decided this year to travel with close friends and work friends, and let me tell you, travelling in a group has definitely made my whole trip a lot cheaper and more affordable. Room rates are a lot cheaper, and I am no longer paying for a double room with single occupancy, which is something I always used to do and think nothing of.
In addition to cutting back on how much I spend on accommodation, I have also cut back on travel. Forget first class or business class, or any type of class, as I am now travelling on pre brought tickets. Buying tickets for my travel and doing a bit of planning before hand has definitely saved me lots of money which can now go into savings rather than into some agent's pockets.
I know that travelling cheaply or cost effectively is not for everyone, however for me it is going to work. I do not need masses of cash to be happy, nor do I need lots of cash to see the sights and surroundings that I can immerse myself in while on my trip. What's best about the whole situation is that, by not spending lots on my spring break trip, I can now afford to go away again, later on in the year which is fantastic!
