My Craigslist Buying Review - Los Angeles and Orange County

Zora
At least once a week I enjoy scouting the "for sale" section in the local Los Angeles and Orange County section of Craigslist.org. I've bought Wicked, Clippers and Lakers tickets, a sports jacket, one Bichon Frise (an adorable puppy), a collection of 40 Dean Koontz books (all for ten dollars at a local garage sale on Craigslist) a box set of Xena and Star Trek dvd's (yes I'm a trekkie).

The best thing I ever bought on Craigslist was my box set of Star Trek DVD's. The person who sold them conveniently lived less than a mile from where I did. And of course, no shipping required! I simply emailed the seller, and set up a time and date to pick up the dvd's. I went with a friend to take a look at the goods! After testing the DVD's we walked away with a great deal. My quick tip: always meet the person in the day time, and go with someone. Also, make sure you inspect what your going to buy. Also, just because they say the price is a hundred dollars for example, certainly does not mean you cannot negotiate for a better price!

Another section of Craigslist I like to scout is the local garage sales. Its very convenient to see what they have for sale in there photos, and where all the garage sales are going on at.. verses riding around scouting for garage/yard sales and not knowing where or what will be at them.

Craigslist is very easy to use and navigate if you are a first time user. Simply find your city/state and click on the for sale section. You can also navigate to one of the various sections: Cars and trucks, furniture, games and toys, books, boats, bikes and many more. My favorite section is the garage sales/free stuff. As far as the free stuff goes..my tip for that is make sure its really free. Not the..buy three get one free, hehe. Usually people give stuff away because of too much clutter or not wanting to pay for hauling a couch, table, etc. away.

Overall I would certainly recommend buying stuff from Craigslist. They have a wide variety of interesting items for sale and for the most part the sellers are very close by. Just make sure you inspect the product, always take precautions when meeting the seller and ALWAYS negotiate!

Good info! Most people don't realize that Craigslist reaches far beyond the USA. There are links for Craigslist all over the world -- including over here in Italy!
