My Dad, the Jokester

My Dad, the Cop

Growing up being the baby of 7, I have several memorable stories about a lot of holiday's, but the one that sticks out the most involves my dad. My dad was a funny man, a jokester. He would always crack us up with his humor and jokes. One 4th of July, after we went to my Aunt's house for a BBQ and seeing a great fireworks show, my dad told us he had some fireworks for us to set-off, even though they were "illegal".

We of course were surprised and excited, thinking we had some M80's to blow up! My dad being a Chicago Policeman , we were shocked to hear or even think that! Once we were at home he had us all sit on the porch, as he walked down by the sidewalk, there he would place 4 car flares in the grass! No M80's, no big boom, they were flares! He turned around and said "Happy 4 th of July!", and started cracking up. It is one of the funniest and greatest memories of my dad. My dad passed away in 1998, but his memory and jokes live on within all of us and he is truly missed.
