My Day at the Game Developers Conference

Idalia Benavides
I am not a game developer, and I will I most likely will never become one as that is not what I am interested in computers for. The closest I've ever been to designing a computer game myself, is giving ideas and helping out my boyfriend with some naming issues he's had when developing his last two games. My sole-reason for attending the Game Developers Conference in 2008 was mostly based on the fact that my boyfriend wanted me to accompany him on something that meant a lot to him. This event was held in San Francisco, California, at the Moscone Center.

My Experience In A World I'd Never Seen
My day started off really early on February the 18th. I was woken up by my boyfriend who was making noise looking through out suitcase for the most geeky looking t-shirt I'd packed him. He couldn't wait to get there, and told me to hurry up and wake up to begin making our way. I could tell that this would be a great day for him, and he certainly needed it, so I did just as he said. I was ready within the next 45 minutes, and he decided we had time to have some breakfast before going.

When we arrived at the Moscone Center, I could tell that I was about to go into a world that would freak me out beyond belief, and I was right. Inside of the Moscone Center, on the first level, there were all kinds of people already at 9:30 in the morning. There were all kinds of tables set up everywhere with all kinds of new technology being shown. I was told that me and my mom would be going to a forty-five minute workshop where we would learn about cool things, then we'd be allowed to just hang out and look at different things.

The workshop I attended was called "Social Media, Virtual Worlds, Mobile, and Other Platforms." When that started I was so interested in everything they were saying, and by the end of the hour I decided to take everything I learned and let my boyfriend know about it.

Making News For The Game Developers
Well of course what will be making the news in the game developing world is all of the new ways to market games online. There are many people using social media, networks, and even virtual worlds to promote their games, and now things are becoming easier and people are taking more of an interest in private game developers online. I think that making games that would be available for MySpace users to play on their profiles would be a great idea.

I also think that everything related to games and mobile phones will be big. That was actually what a lot of people were talking about. There is so much technology on cell phones these days, but the games are still pretty dull. Soon the gaming industry will want to expand their games to not only computers and gaming consoles but to mobile devices as well; it's so exciting!

Hot Gaming Trends
The hot things, which I think my boyfriend I both agree on, that will be making hot gaming trends are mobile developments, and new animations in 3D. The mobile game developers will be coming up with great things this year, and new animations with 3D effects will be the thing everyone will be fascinated with.
