My Day at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

Mary E. Coe
My day at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is a day to remember. It was a fun filled and exciting day that I got to spend with some of my family members. There were inside and outside events. There was even a Culinary Stage outside. There were two children's stages where the children and the young at heart were entertained. It was a bright and sunny day that made it even better.

It was so exciting to meet the awesome, wonderful and helpful Authorsden Administrative staff members. They are fantastic and friendly people. They answered all our questions, brought snacks and drinks for the authors and passed out brochures, book markers and other marketing materials for the participating authors; they, also, had our books on display.

I got to meet other exciting online authors. We read and comment on each others writing online. But, meeting these authors face to face was so exciting and fun. You get to put a real person in front of the pictures, short stories, articles, poems and blogs. Everything just comes to life. I met online authors that have published books and were at the event for book signing. I wrote four books; a book of poems "The Beauty of Life," a book called "A Collections of Short Stories," and two children's books "The Prince of Betherland" and "Willy The Best Christmas Gift Ever." I was in the Authorsden.com Booth for my book signing. My books are posted on Authorsden.com site along with other author's books. It was really cool meeting some of the other authors that have books posted on that site.

Then you get to meet potential buyers face to face; you get to hear how the public really feels about your work. You get to discuss your work with the public. You get first hand opinions from the people on how they feel about your work. You get to find out what the public is looking for from your book.

Children tell it like it is and how they see it. Lucky for me, they had good things to say about my children's books and sketches. I was most nervous when children and young teens viewed my work. I made one big decision while the children were viewing my books, I will add more sketches and make the children's books more colorfully. Even though they were excited over my work, I want to make it more inviting for the little ones. They love pictures.

Getting book marks, post cards and brochures out to the public is very important. They do get back with you and ask more questions about where to buy the books and how long the order takes to reach them. Your information is out there and even if they don't e-mail, that information is out there.

You also get the chance to come face to face with famous and celebrity authors. However, meeting the Authorsden Administrative staff members and fellow authors were the highlight of my day.

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books was an exciting, enjoyable and fun filled day for me. I definitely plan to go back to The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books next year. I recommend it for all authors who have published books.
