My Dearest Grandfather
Dearest Grandfather,
Do you remember December 23rd-
The day before you left this earth?
When you were awake in your hospital bed,
And you were holding my hand ever so tightly.
Do you remember this special moment?
Do you?
Even though you had a stroke and couldn't speak,
Somehow you had the courage to speak when I was there.
Was it a miracle?
Only for a minute it was, but it was cut by bad news,
That you died the next day.
I just wish you were still here,
Holding my hand and looking deep into my eyes
Reciting my name over and over
Over and over again,
I want to hear your voice.
I will only be able to hear your voice,
When I meet up with you someday.
Thinking of you always,
Your Granddaughter
