My Death Space- a Morbid Fascination
I think I found MDS from a news article online about the site. I have always been interested in morbid things. I even get to the point of occasionally looking at things that frighten me (don't search for autopsy photos, real case walk throughs by criminal scientists, etc. unless you really want to see death in a real, graphic way).
It's strange because I've always detested the Faces of Death movie series and similar series. I hate that someone is profiting off of the footage of someones final mortal moments. It seems disrespectful and crass. Then again, the people that I've see watch these movies do so for the "Ew, gross!" effect.
When I look at MDS or other sites that discuss the deaths of real people, I am more interested in the person who died. Or the how and why they died. I try to make sense of life in terms of death.
As an agnostic, I don't pretend to know what will happen when I die. My fear is that nothing will happen. I will have lived and died, to be put in the ground or cremated, and to be forgotten over the generations like my predecessors. It's a depressing line of thought. I guess that beats being tormented for an eternity though.
MDS is a neat little site that helps us look at those who have gone before us, whether or not we knew them. I enjoy sharing a tiny bit of the lives that are shared on the individual pages, and I am thankful that I'm not yet listed on the site.
