I dream that I am in a strange enchanted land. There are bonsai trees, waterfalls and two beautiful sirens singing. A lyric soprano and a mezzo harmonizing, hypnotizing, casting a spell on this mere mortal. Primitive natives play restless percussion to the tune of Un bei di from the opera Madame Butterfly.
Then orchestral strings descend from the surreal blue sky, and create a stairway to heaven. The two sirens that are now angels sing circles around me, and beckon me to follow them up the endless spiral staircase of Sempre Ricordo.
There's A Place beyond infinity where a O' Fortuna choir welcomes all new arrivals. My two lovely soprano angels are my guides. An electric piano, synthesizers, and rhythm section make a flowing river of sounds in this strange eclectic place that is classical and pop music.
The classical and pop music waves blend, twist, then rush to a gentle waterfall that spills into a pond of Lakme H-2-O. Now my two angels become nymphs. Their lilting voices dancing on air.
As an oboe plays the theme, I realize that I am a Stranger In Paradise, although I feel I have finally come home. I see a montage of the faces of those I love who have left my world on earth. "You Will Always Live On In My Heart," my dreamy thoughts cry out. They smile back at me and I feel their thoughts of love and eternal peace.
Then suddenly I am whisked back to earth! I find myself in Napoleon's France. I am a peasant on the street waving and cheering the army as it marches by and the trumpets sound Ode II Joy along with the beating tempo of the drummer boys. I swell with pride even though I am not French.
After the parade, I enter an opera house. My two soprano sirens are now performing on the stage. They sing exquisite renditions of Ave Maria, Chanson Boheme, Vittoria and Ebben, but wait...something strange is happening. The scene is evaporating into thin air. It was only a mirage.
I am now in the middle of the Arabian desert riding a camel in a caravan to the tune of 1001 Nights. The two sirens are now jinn singing a haunting duet in the wind-blown sands of woodwinds and pulsating synthesizer rhythms.
The dawn's early light creeps into my bedroom window and creates a canopy over where I lie sleeping. My dreams are almost at an end, but before I wake, I have one last dance or waltz with each of the two charming ladies. They sing and dance with me to the tune of Barcarolle from the opera The Tales of Hoffman.
As the harp, strings and sopranos waltz inside my head, it occurs to me that the two soprano sirens are the muses that inspired my dreams. Why wouldn't they be? They are Opera Babes. I listened to their CD the previous day and they stayed with me through the night.
Rebecca Knight is the lyric soprano. Karen England is the mezzo soprano. I tell them it is time for me to wake and start a new day. "Remember Me," whispers Rebecca. "Me too," coos Karen. Together they sing the song. Their harmony is the ribbon that wraps a gift filled with synthesizers and full orchestra. They finish strong with high notes.
I am now awake and it is a brand new day.
