My Elegant Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

Arlene Mason
Since Christmas is a season for families, friends and traditions, a Christmas tree should reflect this. It should also say something about the owner.

In recent years my tree has not said much, it has been a small fiber optic number, with no ornaments. However, our situation has changed and this year we have the opportunity to "go all out" for Christmas. Our tree will reflect not only how far we have come, but where we are going. Elegance will be the word of the day this year.

The Tree

The tree will be a 7 1/2 foot a solid white tree, probably a flocked pine or spruce. It will not be artificial, but fresh and flocked while I watch. When it comes home it will be placed in a nice tree stand and allowed to infuse the house with the smell of an evergreen forest.

Ornaments

Solid colors, this year, usually we have a variety of ornaments, different colors, and different styles - an eclectic assortment. Not so this year, we will have a mixture of black and red ornaments, lots of them. They will be of varying sizes and shapes. We will use one per branch.

Lights

Lighting for the tree will be one spotlight, shining from the top, illuminating the whole tree. There will be no other lights.

Tree Top

On top of the tree will be a huge red bow, with black trim. The tails of the bow will flow down the tree on four sides.

This tree has a special place in a corner window in the living room, for all to see. Around it will be my antique electric train, and a solid white tree skirt. My porcelain Christmas village will be on the inside of the tracks and presents will be placed around the outside.

A Christmas tree should say something about the owner. Mine will say "there maybe a recession out there; but in here it's Christmas!" Elegant and special, just like Christmas should be.
