I finally made it to the shop, where I thought that I could trust them. Well you should be able to trust someone to put your tires on correctly, right? After all these guys are certified professionals. So I thought, again!
The mechanic (if that is what you wanna call him) advised me that one - I repeat ONE - of the studs had to be broken off in order to get to the tire, to uhm fix the leak. I totally understood that, so I agreed. After all, there is another one on the other side that is losing a lug nut, so no biggie, there are five more. So I thought, yet again!
Upon leaving the shop and heading home, I noticed this grinding noise. Keep in mind that I live about 45 minutes away from this Firestone. It wasn't a big deal at first, so I just blew it off. A week went by and the sound got worse and worse. There were even times when I would hear a snapping sound as I turned and that scared me more then anything.
I took it to a local tire shop and they hoisted my front end up, just to find out that NONE - I repeat NONE - of the lugs were tight. In fact, every single one of the studs were stripped completely. My kids and I were traveling on ONE securely tightened lug on that side of my car. Translation: the mechanic practically pulled my tire straight off the rim just by hoisting my car up.
Now tell me that there isn't a God and angels watching over us all!!!...
Not to mention, Firestone advised me that I would have to pay close to $25 for a new tire. Uhm whatever happened to the lifetime warranty? I guess they thought they would try to pull yet another fast one on me.
The tires themself last pretty long. In the 2 and 1/2 years that I have had my car (and this warranty), I have only had to replace one tire. That is with taking two trips across the country.
Needless to say, I will not be getting anymore from Firestone, that is for sure.

Yes, God was definitely on your side...
Yeah it's scary to know that these guys can't even take a power tool and tighten a lug nut. I took the car to a local "backyard" mechanic where he and his wife own their own business.
Thanks for outing these incompetent morons. I am lucky our local Firestone (Clinton Hwy) is a great shop I dealt with for many years. Now the Pep boys on Kingston Pike is EXACTLY like the Bossier City Firestone. Please always remember, Katy, these folks are not 'mechanics', they're PARTS CHANGERS! There's a world of difference. This is why 'good mechanics aren't expensive, they're priceless!' (quote stolen from 'Car Talk').
wow they were definately watching over you!
We just bought new tires (not at firestone), but I think I'll check the lug nuts after reading this! The Firestone's in our area have a very bad reputation overall ... we don't even consider going there.
The angels were definitely watching over you.
