I have worked in computers for many years and I have helped many people fix their computers and I always use AVG because of the fact that it does not cost anything. You will never be required to pay in order to use the program but if you want extended protection that will stay on your computer and act as a shield then you will need to upgrade to the professional one. However, I have used the free version for many years and I find no problem with it.

The program just needs to be downloaded and then you install the program and click to check for updates just to make sure that your program has all the things it needs so that it can work properly. From this point you will need to click scan now and make sure you click full scan because the smart scan will only scan your desktop and it will most likely not find a virus. This will make you think that you have no virus infection on your computer but the truth is you might. You will need to make sure to perform a full scan and it will probably take about 20 minutes during which you will not be able to use your computer. The reason for this is that it uses up most of the resources that are on your computer and so it will slow down the progress of whatever you are doing at the time. With that being the case you should make sure that you are not doing anything when you perform the scan so that it can complete the search as soon as possible. The program will look at all of the files on your system and determine if they are harmful to you.

If there is a problem with the files they will let you know and once the search is complete it will give you a total number of infected files and then ask you if you want to delete them.
