My Experience with the Motorola Android

Andrea Rowe
After nearly a year of begging my husband to find a new cellular phone so he would stop griping about his, he finally chose one this past weekend. The last time he and I bought new phones the razor was just introduced so to say I was surprised at what his Motorola Android does is to put it mildly. Since the Motorola Android requires a $30 a month payment plan for each phone due to the Internet needed to use it, I was unable to purchase one but I have played with his enough to write a review.

As soon as I turned on the phone, I was welcomed with the word "Droid." Cell phones can talk by themselves now? I was intrigued. My husband told me some of the things certain apps could do on the Motorola Android so I was excited to see if he was correct. Within five minutes he had five apps added to his phone courtesy of my curiosity. Google Sky Map allows you to plot where you are based on the position of stars in the sky. It was a cloudy day because we expected snow but the clouds did not affect it being able to position where we were. I added the free version of the Aldriko book reader. My husband promised I could take his Motorola Android with me to my many physician visits and I cannot go anywhere without taking a book. I thought about how "green" this option is in regard to books as well. I am currently in the second half of The Case of Benjamin Button.

Google goggles were very neat also. I took a photo of the medium sized McDonald's soda we purchased on the way home. It brought me to that soda and clicking on the link led me to know the calorie content of the drink. This information was very helpful as I consume entirely too many calories. There was a small glitch in the app however. It listed my soda as a large rather than a medium. Still, I was shocked! A picture was recognized well enough to be found on the Internet.

The bar code scanner allows the user to scan a bar code and bring up an SKU number. It is then possible to go to the website that sells the product you scanned. This is useful in comparing prices online versus in store. The bar code scanner is a little difficult to use however. Do not attempt to use this Android app while the car is moving.

The Motorola Android does more than apps but the apps are what make it such a neat phone. When you set up an account, you are asked to link up to your Google email. The phone has both a touch screen and a keyboard for those of us with chubby fingers. The touch screen is not difficult to use as it is extremely sensitive. It is possible to bookmark favorite sites on the web so you do not need to type in the URL each time you want to visit the site. This phone is an amazing invention. I am in awe of how televisions, telephones, and computers all seem to be merging into one creation.

I always, always get the free phone from my provider. This last one, the nokia, makes me want to get a tracfone.

I have a cheesy tiny phone from Virgin Mobile that I keep for emergencies only. All of the new technology has left me in the dust!
