My Experience With A Newborn Baby's Eating Disaster

Daisy May
One day my newborn wouldn't stop crying a hungry cry. So I gave him a bottle of baby formula. He stopped crying the moment I gave it to him. However, whenever I would take the bottle away so I could burp him he would cry again until I gave the bottle back.

When he finished the entire eight ounce bottle I was both surprised and proud that my little one was growing fast. But he wouldn't stop crying and his cries said that he was still hungry so I warmed up another baby bottle. I was totally shocked when he finished the second four ounce bottle. Yet he still cried. I didn't know what to do. He still acted like he wanted more milk.

While I started to warm up the last pre-made bottle, he started puking, not just spitting up. I cleaned him up and held him while he cried. He kept getting sick though and I was scared. My husband didn't know what to do anymore than I did. We eventually called his mom for help with the baby which is something I never wanted to do before.

She came over right away and checked the baby over. She asked how much I had fed him and I told her. She assured me that he would be alright after a couple hours of letting his stomach settle. Then she lectured me on never doing that again- a lecture that I deserved. While we don't know for sure why he wanted to keep eating, she guessed that he probably had a belly ache and that the warm milk was making it feel better until he overate.

That was the first bad experience I had with a newborn and thankfully it was the worst. Still, I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have my mother-in-law there to help me that day.
