My Faltering Monogamy with MySpace: This Three-Way Affair is Killing Me

Sarah Toce
Dear MySpace,

When we met four years ago, everything was exciting and new. My virgin networking hands grasped your internet tools and simply would not let go. I was enamored by your bright lights, loud music, enchanting functions and features that never seemed to let me down. You were there whenever I needed you. I was glued to your screen at all hours of the day and night. You were my butterfly drug of choice.

It was with you that I learned to increase my network and re-connect with those I thought I had lost along the way. You helped me secure film projects with some great people and you were never jealous. Friends contacted me and asked me to join them on adventures and we scavenged along the coast and had a blast. Sadly, you were not there. Still, you were supportive.

One day, I decided to answer the call that had been repeatedly ignored on my answering machine for months. I cannot lie any longer; it was Facebook. Everywhere I turned, it seemed like Facebook was beckoning me to dance. I simply had to take a step to halt my curiosity. Surely, I would see that Facebook was not the one for me and return to my wonderful MySpace, right? Sadly, this was not the case. I was having an affair on MySpace with Facebook. I tried unfalteringly to split my time evenly between the two of you, but soon it was evident where my fingertips belonged. The guilt was almost too much to bare. I began to ignore you, MySpace.

I have to tell you the truth; I never intended to fall for Twitter. Somewhere between transitioning between you and Facebook, I stumbled upon Twitter and my chaotic world was turned upside down once again. Now there are three of you. One was good, two was okay, three is...crazy. I sadly have to make a choice. I cannot live in this triangle any longer. I have to choose and, right now, you are not giving me what I need. Your music is stagnant, your followers are wavering and, well, you're just not keeping up with the times, MySpace. This saddens me, but I think it's time that we say goodbye.

I will stop by and collect all of my friends and followers from your space on Monday.

Sincerely,

Sarah

That was very cute and true! I dallied with MySpace briefly while I was totally committed to Facebook. The guilt was so bad that I finally had to let MySpace go.
I have learned my lesson and won't even look at Twitter!
