My Favorite Christmas Gift: Phyllis Whitney Collection

DK Jordan
We've all heard the saying that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Well, that came true for me this Christmas 2008. My favorite Christmas gift this year was a collection of Phyllis Whitney books including:

Dream of Orchids, Vermilion, Snowfire, Rainsong, Rainbow in the Mist, Woman Without a Past, Feather on the Moon, The Ebony Swan, Hunter's Green, Columbella, Daughter of the Stars, Flaming Tree and

Star Flight.

I was given this treasure by my wonderful spouse who took quite a risk in purchasing this collection off of Ebay. I say she took a risk simply because she was buying something used to give me as a gift. Not that I'm a stuff shirt and have any huge demands at Christmas time, but she's just never given me anything quite like this before. What she found out was that it was a greatly treasured gift and worthwhile repeating.

This wonderful collection was purchased for only $1.00 plus shipping and handling. I expected to discover she had been robbed in the shipping and handling department, but surprisingly enough it was really very reasonable. I was greatly impressed with this Ebay merchant. So, though sometimes merchants on Ebay may get a bad rap, they are not all out to get you. There are many Ebay merchants who are just trying to make a few bucks or an honest living.

Next time you have an opportunity to do so give this type of gift giving a try. My spouse knew I am an avid lover of Phyllis Whitney's writings so the gift was customized to me. By buying the collection off of Ebay in its gently used state, I was able to own thirteen Phyllis Whitney hard backs for the price of one new one off the shelf. Now that is a deal. Even greater than that, I realized something really awesome is that she was able to give me something that meant the world to me and will help to save the world.

So here's the take away message. Ebay is a great place to shop. Used Christmas gifts are absolutely okay to give. A book is a gift that will keep on giving. It is much more the thought behind the gift than the price of the gift. Going green for Christmas 2008 or any occasion not only gives to the recipient but also lets you give something back to the world we live in.
