Television shows designed with children in mind are nothing like they were back when I was a child. Some of my favorite shows back when I was a kid was Scooby Doo, the Smurfs, and Thundercats. However, the shows they offer children today seem far worse than the shows I used to watch. Don't get me wrong, they are entertaining but I don't feel they are appropriate for a preschooler. However, there are some shows out there that are very educational and these are my top five picks to watch out of all the educational shows my preschooler enjoys watching.
Sesame StreetI never watched this show until we dropped our cable provider and went to basic TV, but since watching it I have to admit I love this show. Sesame Street teaches children about numbers, letters, science, manners, and so much more. Children, including my own, love this show and the characters.
Word WorldI personally find this show annoying but my son loves Word World. However, I have to put this show on my list because it teaches children how to spell words and pronounce them. All the characters in the show, the buildings, the land, everything in this world is spelled out. The character sheep, for example is made out of the letter S H E E P, which allows the children to see the word but also what the word is spelling.
Sid The Science KidI am partial to this show because you learn something new each time you watch it. The show is about a young boy, around five, that ask questions about science like 'what is a habitat' or 'where does water come from'. The show teaches you about nature, recycle, and allows your child to do the experiment as well. This show makes me think, and I am 33-years-old.
Dinosaur TrainDinosaur Train is not about science or words, but about dinosaurs. It takes the children into a world of all different dinosaurs and teaches them how they lived. I especially enjoy this show, not just because of the educational value, but it is very entertaining, especially for children that love dinosaurs.
Wild KrattsWild Kratts is another good educational show for children. Unlike other children shows, this one focus' on animals. It teaches your youngsters about all different types of animals, and is based off from the lives of two brothers who rescue and observe animals.
All of these shows air on PBS. You can discover more information about each show and fun things to do at the PBS website.Published by Theresa L.

My girls started liking the power puff girls. I put a stop to that right away and found that word girl has the same concept but educational. That's how we compromised on that show. These are all great shows.
I'll have to check out the last two. Thanks =)
