Travel is my favorite Fall season hobby. My wife and I love to take day and weekend trips throughout the season. This article will explain what we like to do on these trips.
Wineries
It doesn't matter where we go. We always check to see if there is a winery along the way. Wineries are great for wine tasting. They prepare for their visitors by providing cheese and crackers to go with the wine sampling. Many of these places provide entertainment. It is not unusual to see bands at these places. Hermann, Missouri is one of our favorite locations. They have a lot of wineries within a small distance. One winery even has star gazing along with wine tasting for evening entertainment. Some even are associated with community Fall festivals.
Arts and Crafts
Many vendors spend the Spring and Summer seasons getting their items ready for the Fall. My wife and I love to find early holiday gifts and decorations. Many times these will be associated with Fall festivals. I am always on the outlook for something unique. You may or may not find a bargain. I have found that vendors are always looking for a deal. Their goal is to sell their product.
Christmas Tree Farms
Many tree farms will have a weekend during the Fall, so that you can tag your tree. These farms will have family entertainment. There is one farm, that lets you select your Halloween pumpkin, too. Wagon rides take you into the field to select and tag your tree. Then, they stop and let you select your pumpkin.
Apple Picking
You can go apple picking in the Fall. We like to go to Eckerts. They have hay rides that take you into the orchards. You pick the apples of your choice. Most of these have other family activities like horseback riding, picnics and bonfires.
Chili Cook Offs
There are several chili cook offs in our area. These are usually held in early November. The colder the weather, the better the hot chili tastes. You pay a small fee and sample different types of chili. Most funds raised go towards a charitable project.
Leaves and Air
Finally, we love to just view the changing color of the leaves and breathe the fresh Autumn air. There is no better place to see this than the Mississippi River Road. It runs from Alton to Grafton, Illinois. You might even catch a glimpse of an American Eagle.
This is why travel is my favorite Fall season hobby.

Post a CommentI love the county fairs that tend to occur at the very end of summer, just as the weather is turning cooler.
All those things and the fact that we have had 33 or 34 straight dys of 100 plus temps in Dallas--really make me look forward to Fall!
All good ones.
Brilliant...thanks Bill.. :o)
