My Favorite Foods Go to Mars

National Poetry Month Poem for the Science Fiction Lover

Blast off in 20, 19, 18, joules to consume
holding breath, stomach juices bloom.

Yep, tastes good, reminds of past days
when mom fed milkshakes and chocolate cream of whey.

Blast off, like sauced jalapeno or red pepper flakes
in my chicken, eyes blinking, tears streaming, in take by take.

Afloat, nothing stays down or up or everything upside down cake
topped with pineapple or crazy cherry chocolate swirl bake.

At last, the moon, coming in view, gray cheese, phew
but oxygen tastes sweet like bubbles of mountain dew.

Head cranking, here comes the chocolate coated almond
Mars, a desire more real than War's bond.

These are the tastes that power the drive, spinach green
pumping through each bacon dripped place seen.

The power of the fuel, caramel candy
or whatever my hands find, is really quite dandy.
