I did some research and found out that rosemary grows wild in the Mediterranean. It would be so nice if rosemary would grow in my back yard just like wild flowers do. I could go outside and pick some any time.
I can assure you that won't be happening though because we live in the Northeast and our winters are very bad. We have very low temperatures and lots of ice and snow.
I wait until I'm sure the last frost has come and gone and then we go to our neighborhood garden center. I look forward to this every year. I search through all the plants until I find the perfect ones. We bring them home and plant them in the biggest containers we can find. Our containers are usually all dusty from the long winter so we clean them and plant our herbs. Rosemary is always one of the first herbs that I plant.
It's so easy to grow rosemary. All you have to do is take a big container and put small rocks in the bottom of the container for good drainage. Then add a good grade of potting soil and plant your rosemary. That's it and you can enjoy rosemary all summer long.
I love the aroma from the rosemary plant. It seems like a delicacy to me. I always make my pork roasts with lots of rosemary and I add it to my pan when I'm cooking pork chops.
I have a lot of containers that I've collected over the years. I plant flowers in some of my containers. I save my really big containers for my herbs. I keep my herbs and flowers next to each other on the patio. In the summer they look beautiful together. We also have a big garden but I like to keep my herbs within easy reach when I'm cooking.
Rosemary can also be added to fish and lamb. Some people make a tea from rosemary. I never have but I'm sure it's very good.
I promise you will not be disappointed if you take the time to grow a rosemary plant.

Post a CommentI had a friend (she died in her early 90's) who used rosemary on chicken thighs that she broiled (she had to watch her intake as she'd once had a diabetic stroke). Rosemary is one of the musts. Others are sage, thyme, and marjoram.
I kept some of my rosemary on the kitchen windowsill. It survived the winter but did not grow a bit.
Great idea, thanks Nancy!
I love Rosemary too. Thanks for sharing.

I completely agree with you about the aroma of rosemary! Smells so good when it's warmed by the sun. Yes, it is amazing with pork. Ever roast a chicken with it? :)
